Actor Matthew Goode (A Single Man, Watchmen) has been working pretty much non-stop recently, with plenty lined up for the near future too. From working with Benedict Cumberbatch to being stuck in a diving bell at the bottom of the sea, here, just for Goode measure, is our round up of his current projects – with further information on many of them on Production Intelligence.
He is currently shooting his role of Hugh Alexander in The Imitation Game, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the brilliant mathematician Alan Turing, whose work at Bletchley Park during World War II helped crack the Germans’ Enigma code. Directed by Morten Tyldum, the feature co-stars Keira Knightley, Mark Strong, Rory Kinnear and Charles Dance.
Goode will then head to the US to film Selfless with Ryan Reynolds, Natalie Martinez and Ben Kingsley. The feature is directed by Tarsem Singh, and centres on the idea of mind transference and what happens when a dying elderly man inhabits a younger body, that of a murder victim.
And it is hoped that there will be room in his schedule to film Destroyer, a forthcoming feature from Warp Films about the warship HMS Coventry which was sunk during the Falklands War. At the moment, locations are yet to be tied down, but we are told it’s a project which definitely has Goode’s interest.
He recently finished filming Ron Scalpello’s Pressure, with Danny Huston and Joe Cole about four deep sea divers who become trapped at the bottom of the ocean. It was filmed at Pinewood and in Scotland.
One of the most anticipated British films this year is Belle, in which Goode plays Captain Sir John Lindsay. The feature, directed by Amma Asante, is based on the real life story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the first mixed race woman to appear in the higher echelons of London society in the 18th century. Gugu Mbatha Raw stars in the title role, with Tom Wilkinson, Miranda Richardson and Emily Watson among the robust cast. The film was shot on some beautiful locations in London and the Isle of Man – you can read more from the location managers themselves over on our sister website, KFTV.
And you only have to wait until Christmas for a Goode drama, as the BBC will be airing Death Comes to Pemberley as part of the festive schedule. Filmed over the summer in Leeds, the Pride and Prejudice follow-up is based on the P.D James novel which revisits the Darcys’ marriage six years on, as a body is found in the grounds of Pemberley. Goode plays Wickham in the three-parter, with Anna Maxwell Martin as Elizabeth and Matthew Rhys as Darcy. Juliette Towhidi has written the screenplay.
