The initial response to this movie showing at Sundance seems positive. A full review has been added to the press archive. Screendaily highlighted Matthew’s performance as journalist Peter Beaumont: –
Official Secrets spends much of its first half focusing on the reporters’ investigation into this leak, and Smith and Goode make an enjoyable onscreen combo.
Matthew plays Guardian journalist Peter Beaumont in Official Secrets and the movie premieres today at Sundance. Information from Rotten Tomatoes: –
Director: Gavin Hood
Screenwriters: Gregory Bernstein, Sara Bernstein
Cast: Keira Knightley, Matt Smith, Ralph Fiennes, Matthew Goode, Rhys Ifans
Another post-9/11 tale, this one set across the pond. Official Secrets is the true story of British Intelligence whistleblower Katharine Gun, who leaked a top-secret NSA memo exposing an illegal spying operation against members of the UN Security Council ahead of the Iraq War.
Why we want to see it:The Doctor, Voldemort, Ozymandias, and Elizabeth Bennett walk into a political thriller… Yes, this cast is stacked with Oscar-caliber British actors. Some have dubbed the real-life events the film is based on as the case of the ‘British Edward Snowden’ – we hope Hood’s film is more like the Oscar-winning documentary Citizenfour than Oliver Stone’s Razzie-nominated Snowden.
A Discovery of Witches will be available on Sundance Now and Shudder from 17th January.
There has been a lot of fabulous coverage and reviews in the American press and on entertainment websites and we’ve added a few extracts to the press archive for you to enjoy.
New York Times – Matthew Goode Knows How to Charm. Just Ask Lady Mary and Princess Margaret.
By Kathryn Shattuck Jan. 11, 2019
Matthew Goode has always exuded a whiff of danger: the slyly wicked smile. The devil-may-care charm. The sense that something rather naughty lurks beneath his suave exterior.
Which mostly explains why he was cast, no audition required, as Matthew Clairmont, an Oxford genealogist — and 1,500-year-old vampire — in “A Discovery of Witches,” streaming on Sundance Nowand Shudder, starting Jan. 17.
A quick round up of what movies are due for release and the projects Matthew is involved in this year. Also at the end of this post is a summary of what TV shows and movies are available on streaming services in the UK, USA and Italy.
