A Discovery Of Witches Q&A —Matthew Goode On Playing A More Ruthless Version Of Matthew
In A Discovery of Witches, Matthew Goode plays Matthew Clairmont, a cunning, mysterious vampire who finds love with a witch. Season 2 finds Matthew and witch-in-training Diana, in 1590 London, as they continue their search for The Book of Life. In this interview with amc.com, Goode talks about becoming a more ruthless version of Matthew, how Matthew really feels about Kit, and the magic of working with Teresa Palmer.
Q: It’s clear that the Matthew we meet circa 1590 is a different man. Not only in style and costume, but also in demeanor, and the way he carries himself. Can you talk a bit about transforming into this earlier version of Matthew?
A: It’s 1590, so they were quite literally darker times. It’s medieval. I looked at paintings; they held themselves in a different way, just due to the nature of the clothing. Matthew has evolved up into the 21st century, so he knows that the man in the 16th century is a completely different Matthew. He was much more dangerous as an individual. He hated witches. There was much more warfare going on during those times. They were just much more dangerous times.
So, it’s a part within a part. He has to play himself and it’s not a very easy thing for him to do. I mean, he’s always got pretty good posture, but I wanted him to feel a little more awkward and be a bit more rigid. We were able to give him a beard, and we played with the idea of just making him look like men that we’d seen in paintings.

More info’ from Variety –
Netflix has announced that a host of bold-name British stars – including actor Helena Bonham Carter and rapper Dizzee Rascal – will join the cast of its quirky new animated series “The House.”
The announcement was made during a session at the Annecy International Animation Festival, where Netflix offered fans a sneak peak at the adult-oriented show, which is being produced by Nexus.
Bonham Carter will voice Jen, an “eccentric tenant,” while Rascal will voice a character only known as “the Policeman”.
Joining the duo are Mia Goth (“Emma”), Miranda Richardson (“Stronger”) and Matthew Goode (“Stoker”). Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker will also be among the vocal talent.
“The House” is a stop-motion animation in three unconnected parts. Described as an “eccentric dark comedy” it centers around a single house and its inhabitants. During the Annecy panel, fans also got a look at the creative process and some of the puppets.
Chapter one is directed by Belgian auteurs Emma de Swaef and Marc James Roels (“This Magnificent Cake!”), Chapter two by Swedish director Niki Lindroth von Bahr (“The Burden”) and Chapter three by Paloma Baeza (“Poles Apart”)
“The characters in ‘The House,’ albeit in different ways, are all trying to make sense of the world and their place within it,” said producer Charlotte Bavasso. “It’s about their flawed attempt to conform to an idea of who they think they are or who they think they ought to be. And whether they manage to break free or not. We couldn’t have dreamt of a better cast: they all embraced the heart of those existentialist comedies and the uniquely caustic sense of humor of our visionary filmmakers and writer in spectacular ways.”

Variety, Deadline, Hollywood Reporter and others have announced that Matthew Goode will play film producer, Robert Evans, in a limited series about the making of The Godfather.
Matthew Goode has been cast to play film producer and studio exec Robert Evans in Paramount Plus limited event series “The Offer,” about the making of “The Godfather.”
“The Offer” is based on the experience of Oscar-winning producer Albert S. Ruddy. The original 1972 film from director Francis Coppola, an adaptation of Mario Puzo’s novel, starred Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, John Cazale, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton and Talia Shire. Paramount Television Studios is behind the 10-episode series written and executive produced by Nikki Toscano, who is also serving as showrunner, alongside creator and writer Michael Tolkin.
Miles Teller was recently cast as Ruddy in the drama series, replacing Armie Hammer in the role in the wake of sexual abuse allegations that surfaced against Hammer. Hammer exited the production in January, as Variety reported exclusively.
Teller and Ruddy are also executive producers on “The Offer,” alongside Leslie Grief of “Hatfields & McCoys.” Dexter Fletcher, also exec producing, is slated direct the first and last blocks, according to the studio.
